Robyn Rognstad

Robyn Rognstad is a lifelong multidisciplinary artist currently residing in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand).  Growing up, Robyn had a hand pieced quilt made by her great grandmother on her bed which inspired her to pursue quiltmaking.  She started learning the process towards the end of earning her Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking in 2010.  As most of her conceptual work is representational, she was drawn to the illustrative potential of foundation paper piecing and started Robynie Patterns to share her designs in 2015.  More recently, she has been focusing on larger scale improvisational piecing and pushing the limits of walking foot quilting, though she still paper pieces detailed elements from time to time.

Robyn’s artistic work can be found in the collections of the Springfield Art Museum in Missouri and the Brooklyn Art Library, as well as numerous private collections.  She also enjoys slowly sewing the ultimate capsule wardrobe, roller skating, and practicing Esperanto (saluton!).
