Monika Henry

Monika is a quilt designer based near Ottawa, Canada. Her modern quilt patterns appeal to new and seasoned quilters alike and she designs her bold, fuss-free patterns to inspire quilting confidence, one piece at a time. Her work has been published in Love Patchwork & Quilting and Make Modern, as well as in books by Annie’s, and David and Charles publishing.

Monika grew up dabbling in many creative pursuits, but didn’t start quilting until she was at university. She is largely self-taught, and found her community in the modern quilt movement when her children were just about starting pre-school. Most of the quilts she’s made over the years have been her own designs, but it was thanks to a very insistent quilty friend that she finally submitted her first quilt pattern to Make Modern in 2018, and she has never looked back. She has since designed over 30 patterns, both for her own shop and for magazines and books, and there are many more waiting to be brought to paper.

Originally from Switzerland, Monika worked and studied abroad a few times in various interesting places and now lives in rural Ontario with her husband and two children, as well as a small menagerie of animals. When she’s not sewing, organising her scraps or doodling her next pattern idea, she can usually be found puttering around the garden or tucked in a comfy chair with a good book and a cup of tea.
