FAQs

About the Fabric

Q: What the heck is a custom printed quilt top?

A: Our fabric is all digitally printed. This means that each piece you purchase is a one-off print. It is meant to be taken straight to the quilting machine, where no piecing is required. We offer printed sizes that allow you to actually finish a functional quilt with one single piece of fabric.

Q: What type of fabric do you print on?

A: We print on a super soft, buttery, semi-lightweight, color-fast, non-stretch, anti-wrinkle, anti-fade polyester poplin weave blend. When most people see the fabric in person, they usually ask, “Wow! Is this some sort of silk??” or they say “Oh this must be a cotton/poly blend because it is sooooo soft.” It really is beautiful. It is a tighter weave than a traditional cottons, but still drapes and billows like a cotton would. If you’d like, you can order a swatch sample here.

That being said, in the future as our business grows, we may offer other substrates such as cotton, as well as even possibly silk. The R&D phases for other substrates has already begun, and will be integrated into the site when we are able to find substrates that meet our standards of quality, cost analysis, longterm stability, and market demand.

Q: But the tag on my custom printed quilt top says “100% Polyester” while Honest Fabric says Polyester/poplin blend. What does this mean exactly?

A: While poplin is commonly done with cotton fabrics, it is essentially just another word for woven. And the fabric is 100% polyester, which is somewhat of a generic term when it comes to the actual hand and makeup of the fabric. There are wildly different fabrics that are both technically 100% polyester. So, polyester/poplin blend basically means it is polyester with a cotton-like feel to it.

Q: The tag also says “Do Not Iron”. So how will I get any wrinkles out from shipping?

A: Typically a tumble dry on low will do the trick. And, technically, you can iron the fabric if you want, it really won’t hurt the fabric at all, since extreme heat is part of the binding process when the fabric is printed. The label is just a good reminder that fabric is not indestructible, and at some point, there would be a high enough temperature that could damage the fabric, so it’s more of a precaution than a hard, fast rule. But again, a warm tumble in the dryer will usually do the trick. The fabric is already wrinkle resistant by nature, so to get wrinkles out of it isn’t hard.

*Pro-tip* Throw a damp washcloth in with it, and that little bit of steam will just give it the pre-quilting pamper.

The Design Work

Q: Where do all those amazing designs come from?

A: Honest Fabric is made up of a community of designers. Some are within the quilting industry, and some have nothing to do with it. We have pattern designers, hand-letterers, painters, photographers, graphic designers and illustrators. Unlike many other on-demand fabric printing companies, our library is completely curated. No more filtering through tons of weird obscure stuff to find the goodies. We genuinely believe that there is a quilt top for everyone here.

Q: How often do the designs on the website change?

A: While our collection is still growing, we don’t make a habit of removing any of the designs that are offered. But, new ones are being added everyday! The amazing part about printing on demand is that a designer can create a piece of work, and the custom-printed quilt top of that work is literally available within a week of the designer submitting it to Honest Fabric. He do our best to stay on-trend, while also offering timeless classics that will be available for years to come.

Q: Do you offer any coordinating yardage to your designs?

A: No. Because each piece is printed individually to minimize excess production and waste, we specialize in finished compositions, not yardage. However, we are confident that with our current saturated market of yardage prints, finding coordinating fabrics should be a breeze.

Ordering and Shipping

Q: When will my fabric arrive on my doorstep?

A: Shipping times will vary based on the distance you live from Northern Utah. However, because our pieces are custom printed on demand, fulfillment can take anywhere from 5-15 business days. All pieces are typically shipped through the USPS, most likely in a grey envelope which takes anywhere from 1-5 business days in transit, domestically.

Q: Do you ship your fabric internationally?

A: Yes! Shipping and Handling rates will vary based on where in the world you are, but that flat rate shipping will be calculated at the check-out process, when you enter your mailing address. *HINT* That price does not change based on quantity, so if S+H feels a little steep, get your quilty buddies in on this goodness and place a group order! KA-CHING!

Refunds and Exchanges

Q: What do I do if I want a refund?

You can get a full understanding of our return policy on our Terms & Conditions page. But here are the basic policies we adhere to:
– We do not offer cash refunds/product returns for any reason.
– We DO offer replacements FREE OF CHARGE if your quilt top arrives misprinted or damaged.

If you’re just not quite sure about the color, scale, or feel of our fabrics, it’s always a great idea to order a swatch sample first.
